What is CGPA?

CGPA stands for **Cumulative Grade Point Average**. It's a standardized way to measure your overall academic performance across all semesters of your course.

The CGPA Formula

The basic formula for calculating CGPA is:

CGPA = Σ(Grade Points × Credit Hours) / Σ(Credit Hours)

Step-by-Step Calculation

1. **List all your subjects** with their credit hours

2. **Convert your grades** to grade points (A=10, B=8, etc.)

3. **Multiply** each grade point by its credit hours

4. **Sum up** all the products

5. **Divide** by total credit hours

Example Calculation

| Subject | Grade | Grade Point | Credits | Points×Credits ||---------|-------|-------------|---------|----------------|| Math | A | 10 | 4 | 40 || Physics | B+ | 9 | 3 | 27 || Chemistry | A | 10 | 3 | 30 || English | B | 8 | 2 | 16 |

**Total Credits:** 12

**Total Points:** 113

CGPA: 113/12 = 9.42

Converting CGPA to Percentage

For most Indian universities using a 10-point scale:

  • **Percentage = CGPA × 9.5**

  • So, 9.42 CGPA = 89.49%
